Here at scentsational paws academy you are in safe hands with your scent work journey.
We are here to teach you how to achieve the ultimate dog and handler partnership, practicing a sport that your dog is already naturally a pro at (all dogs love to sniff right?).
Our main training venue is St James' Church Hall in Barton Under Needwood but we also host events at various locations accross Staffordshire & Derbyshire such as searches at steam train stations, Lorry parks & adventure woods to name a few.
You can book one to one scentwork training sessions with us or small group classes
Is scentwork suitable for my dog?
Scent work is for all dogs! Including anxious & reactive dogs.
There are so many benefits to engaging your dogs strongest natural sense whilst giving them both a mental and physical workout in their search to detect odour.

I am proud to be one of a small number of Instructors within the UK that holds a City & Guilds certified scentwork qualification. This was gained through many weeks of in person training along with written & practical exams.
I am also proud to be an ambassador of and certified Instructor with The College of Scent Dogs as well as trial hosts & judge of Nosework Games.
What we offer
Our training techniques have been adapted from explosive detection & drug search techniques which have been simplified for pet dog owners to enjoy the thrill of scent work. (Our target odour is Gun oil)
Scentsational paws academy offers both individual scentwork training & group classes.
We also offer training workshops, progression levels & achievement awards, competitions & trials all whilst providing you with the opportunity to search some very exciting environments!

That's great! We can help you progress from whatever stage you are at, please reach out to book your one to one session or find out which class or upcoming event would be suitable for you.
The target odour we use is Napier gun oil but we can also cater for other target odours (please get in touch to discuss)
How can we progress?
The possibilities are endless! Progressing on from solid foundations you will be given opportunities to learn how to search buildings, areas, routes and vehicles which all have their own systematic search patterns.
You may wish to join in with our popular, themed, scenario based training events or work your way through our progression levels & achievement awards!
You can also take part in competitions such as Nosework games or Competition Scent Dog Trials

We chose Pampered Paws for puppy training and started training when our puppy was only 12 weeks old. Sam was so patient with such a young pup who just wanted to play! Each lesson was well structured with detailed notes to take away and practice at home. We learnt so many important lessons which have paid dividends through his adolescence, little things that make life so much easier such as having a calm dog to take into dog friendly restaurants, who will sit at the curb and wait to cross the road, has good recall and politely greets other dogs. Good training is not only about training the dog but it’s also about training the owner too and we learnt a lot too from the positive reward-based techniques.
A year later we returned to Sam for Scent Training classes. Our dog absolutely loves this activity - he can’t wait to get started on the games and it is fascinating to watch him work. It is such a great activity to exercise their brains and it’s a lot of fun for owners to participate in too. We particularly enjoy the new and different locations that Sam organises, giving us new challenges and experiences.
